During World War 2, many people from various countries were
sent to either Allied or Axis organizations to infiltrate or retrieve
information regarding the countries' military plans, documents, and many other
types of useful information. Many Soviet and German women were sent to the United States
with a complete new background and identity, with the mission to retrieve
valuable information from the government or an organization of importance. They
then escaped, from the US, and came back to their home, to deliver the
information retrieved. Amongst other methods, this was how some countries and
armies prepared for battles or war, by knowing the enemy's plan of attack and
tactical methods in war. Some were also sent into different military groups to
eliminate troops or set back missions or certain plans. The many spies that
were captured were either interrogated and sent to prison for life, or
sentenced to death, depending on where they did it.
