The
Battle of Gazala was fought from May 26th 1942
through June 21, 1942 between Italy and Britain. The battle took place in North America during
the Desert Campaign of World War II. The Italians, led by Rommel, were trying
to attack British forces north of Bir Hakeim. The Axis powers won the battle
but also lost about 30,000 troops. The Allies lost about 40,000 troops and about 35,000 were captured. The Axis powers gained 2,000 tons of petroleum, 5,000 pounds of supplies, and 2,000 military vehicles after capturing Tobruk. This was bad for the allies because they could have lost all of their resources
